It’s not about what their wearing, how much skin is/isn’t covered, or who’s attached to their arm. I tune in solely for the music. I always say music calms the chaos in the world. Well, in my world it does.
The show has ended and it’s left me completely wired and most inspired. “Strive to do your best, do what you love, and follow your dreams.” Quoted from LL Cool J, the show’s host.
I can honestly say that this year’s show was probably the best yet. Where do I start?
Pop, Rock, Punk, Metal, Grunge, Alternative, Indie, Classical, Disco, House, Country, etc. I listen to it all. I’ve gone through phases in my life in which I found myself listening to only one genre of music. I blame that heavily on the influences my surroundings created. Not anymore. My ears are open to all music.
Being open to an eclectic mix of music is what makes the Grammy’s exciting. Especially when it comes to the collaborations of artists. And tonight’s show was no stranger to this. Amazing performances paired with elaborate (and most impressive) stage props. We truly live in a digital word. Complete with all the hashtags.
It’s nice to see awards go to artists who truly put in the time and hard work. Not necessarily to those who gain additional press coverage more often than others for issues unrelated to their musical talent.
I must comment on the short clip of Dick Clark’s American Bandstand with LL Cool J. How cool was that? I actually remember that episode. Remember the part of the show where Dick would hold up the featured artist’s current album while sitting with the crowd? Funny how today I’m always on the hunt for those treasured pieces of vinyl.
“Music brings people together.” Another quote from the handsome host. Sorry, had to throw that one in there.
I will admit that I was a little surprised at Justin’s performance. I was expecting him to be sliding across the stage as he has done in the past. Then I just listened. Has he brought the sexy back? Sure he has. Only in a more sophisticated way. We all grow as individuals and at times we try a different course. And sometimes we revisit where it all began. Going back to our roots. Does that make sense? This is my take on his new sound. I look forward to hearing his whole album.
Adele is just the sweetest berry in the patch. You never know what is going to come out of her mouth, but you know that she’ll make you laugh.
What it is about Prince’s presence that just leaves us a little frazzled and lost for words? Or is this just me? I remember reading somewhere that he has new music coming out. I’ll have to investigate that further.
Favorite Grammy moment? To many to just name one. The Bob Marley Tribute was amazing! I have a little obsession with Jack White’s music so when he was performing I had the tv all the way up! And the brief pirate siting was most welcoming.
Did you catch the end when they announced a new category is being added next year? The Music Educator Award. Highlighting teachers for their guidance with young musicians. People can start nominating teachers now at grammymusicteacher.com. It’ll be interesting to see this segment next year.
Time to end my night. But only after I listen to some more Jack White…
Until the next word…
