Weekend Links: Buy-Create-Cook

February 7, 2016

The weekend is here and what better time to get caught up with all those pages you bookmarked throughout the past few days.  Perhaps you’ll splurge on something that caught your eye.  Challenge yourself with a new DIY project.  Or how about messing up the kitchen as you prepare a new vegetarian recipe (or snack). Sounds fun right?

Welcome to Weekend Links-BUY-CREATE-COOK!

Here’s three things that grabbed my attention.

1.  I couldn’t resist buying this, a Polaroid Frame Cookie Cutter!
2.  Create your own little collection of garden containers using teacups.
3.  I’m making this on Monday!
Have a great weekend!

Handmade Card Inspiration-UPDATE!

May 5, 2013

I take a lot of photos.  Let me say that again.  I take a LOT of photos.  It’s time to put them to use.  A lot of my prints never make it to paper.  They exist only on a flash drive.  Why?  My daily struggles with time I guess.
I’ve been coming across all sorts of interesting things in the craft store.  Photography related rubberstamps, film strip washi tape, Polaroid scrapbook paper, and a few other goodies.  And of course I buy it all!  Then it sits in a drawer in my office.
My goal this week is to dig it all out and create some new cards.  I need to get my Etsy card shop back open and why not do it with a whole new look?  My card rack in Galena needs some sprucing up as well.
I’ll post an update as to how they turn out.
UPDATE!
This past weekend I added a new stack of handmade cards to the shop in Galena!  Many more to come.  Here’s a little preview.
Next up…re-opening the Etsy shop (Eightymillion Dog Card)!

Until the next word…

Friday’s Top 10 List: 4-26-13 (Mother’s Day Inspiration Part One)

April 26, 2013

I’m happy to report that Spring has finally “Sprung” here in the Midwest!  Clap, cheer, or heck do a cartwheel!  The ten day forecast looks amazing.  I have some days off coming and will be spending them in the yard with the boys.  The blueprint for the garden is coming along and I can’t be more excited.
Mother’s Day is right around the corner so for the next two weeks I’ll be sharing some ideas and inspiration on the weekly Top 10 List.  I’ll be continuing my Mom’s tradition that she did for her Mom.  If you missed that post click here.
Enjoy the list and have a great weekend!

Do you shop on Etsy?  Here’s an adorable Treasury dedicated to your Mom’s special day.

Recycle a bucket and give her flowers.  Great idea!
“Less Dishes” concept.  Be sure to grab the free printable tag to include with the gift.
Create a silhouette chalkboard.  Adorable!
Text art.  You can pick up these frames for around $5.00 at Walmart.
DIY Baby masks.  How cute are these?
Give her a coupon book.  Endless possibilities with these books.
Hot off the press!  Her very own newspaper!
Pack your gift in a plastic two liter bottle.  Very resourceful and creative!
Dig out some photos and put together a memory jar.

Friday’s Top 10 List: 1-11-13

All That’s Vintage in Galena, IL

The fog was extremely thick this morning on my way to work.  I passed two accidents and luckily everyone around me was driving with caution.

Another weekend is upon us.  So much to do with such little time.  Do we ever get caught up?  Ever?

Truly a classic.  This song never gets old!
I love Loren’s website.  Here’s one of her recent posts, 8 ways to keep positive energy in your life.
DIY Homemade Laundry soap?  Sure, save some money and give it a try.  Everything Etsy shares the recipe right here.
Teacup puppy.  Adorable.
How incredibly cozy does this look?
Looking for that perfect gift for your photographer friend?  Shop here!  My wishlist for this site in so long.
I’m still not completely sold on the whole concept of Instagram.  Perhaps it’s the feeling of uploading more photos to yet another social site.  However, if your a Instagram junkie then you might just appreciate this.
The flu can be one nasty mess.  Protect yourself and your pets.

Bullying.  A subject that doesn’t get enough attention.  I caught this segment on the news this week.  It’s nice to see teens taking a proactive approach to cyber bullying.  A friend of mine will be finishing up film production for an upcoming documentary titled, Hear Me Now-The Face of School Bullying.  I also found this article interesting.

We live in a social media world.  Well, at least I do.  Do you use StumbleUpon?  Here’s some additional tips on getting started.

Have a great weekend!

Holiday Decor in Galena, IL (All That’s Vintage)

Have you ever seen such a large pinecone? Makes you wonder how big the tree is that it came from.
With Christmas getting so close this will be my last Top 10 List in which I feature gift ideas.  For the remaining two weeks I’ll be giving you ideas for last minute DIY handmade gifts, holiday recipes (appetizers), wrapping inspiration, and so much more.  No worries, the Top 10 list isn’t going away, I’ll go back to sharing what I find interesting around the web.  It’s been a pleasure to feature so many talented Etsy artists.  I’ve met some wonderful people and picked up a few things for myself along the way.  I love being part of the handmade community and always willing to show my support for other artists.
Plans for the weekend?  In between my work schedule I’ll be baking more holiday treats.  Check back this weekend for the last two recipes and decorating ideas.  Trying something new this year with the traditional sugar cookies.

Friday’s Top 10 List: 11-30-12 (Vintage Holiday Decor)

November 30, 2012

Our Vintage ornament tree we have in Galena, IL
The last day of November 2012…*sigh*
Where has this year gone?  I can honestly say that the only thing I remember from this past month is the Election and the day I stuffed myself full with that “big meal.”  Now, if I can only get these silly Kmart television ads out of my head, I’ll be good!  Have you seen the Old Navy commercial featuring the Griswold’s?  Hilarious!  If you can spare thirty two seconds, click here and laugh with me.  How can you not Love Clark?
How are you doing with your Christmas shopping?  I’m happy to report that I’m actually farther along than usual.  Most of my gifts are handmade this year.  With that comes time.  Meaning each gift takes a little bit longer than walking into the store and choosing something off the shelf.  But it’s what I call “fun time.”  No complaints because I’m enjoying every minute of it!
Today’s theme for the Top 10 List is Vintage Holiday Decor.  I get a kick out of listening to customers comments about what they discover in a our shop as they stroll the aisles.  “I had this when I was little.”  “Grandma gave us them for our tree.”  “OMG, I forgot all about those!”  And the comments go on and on.
Did you miss the previous Top 10 List where I featured Gifts for Him and Gifts for Her?
Each item comes from several adorable Vintage shops on Etsy.com and are priced at $25. and under.  I was easily distracted by all the goodies each and every shop has available.
Enjoy!

The closer we get to Christmas I’ll be sharing several DIY ideas for you craft geeks.  Last minute handmade gifts, wrapping ideas, recipes, and so much more.

Friday’s Top 10 List: 11-23-12 (Gifts for Him)

November 24, 2012

I was truly amazed at the amount of people that visited Galena, IL today.  Given the fact that it was Black Friday, I never imagined we would be so busy.  I wish the shop had a automatic doormat that greeted people as they walked in.  It would of been a tremendous help.  The day was awesome and I’m thankful for everyone who visited.  Decisions were made for gift giving, ladies chuckled as they discovered items on the shelves that sparked a childhood memory, and tons of inspiration was shared between customers and myself.
Santa’s arrival was celebrated with a parade down Main Street.  It was nice to watch from the shop window due to how cold it is outside today.  Brrrr!
Tomorrow is Shop Small Business Saturday.  Looking forward to another successful day.  For additional information check out ShopSmall.com.
I’m completely exhausted, but the day isn’t over until I post this weeks Top 10 List.  Last week I shared a list of Gifts for Her.  This week is all about the Men on our list.  The items ($25. and under) are created by artists on Etsy.com.
Enjoy!

Friday’s Top 10 List: 11-16-12 (Gifts For Her)

November 16, 2012

Taken at All That’s Vintage in Galena, IL

Hello!  Not sure where you live but here it’s sunny and 50 degrees.  I’ll take it!

Can you believe that next week is Thanksgiving?  Being vegetarian I don’t really get all that excited for the “turkey meal” but I welcome the day off of work.  It’s also the official day that I went “cold turkey” and decided to become a vegetarian.  Thanksgiving of 1985 to be exact.  I had already stopped eating a lot of meat prior to this day.  When my parents placed the bird on the table and pulled out the carving knife I decided it was time to give it up.  I’m sure it started more as a mental thing, but there are also a lot of health benefits.
Black Friday?  No thank you!  I was never for standing in line at midnight in the cold.  However, I did notice that many stores are starting earlier this year, so that’s good.  People will go right from the dinner table to the line.  I prefer to browse around the web to look for deals.  Trying to figure out something fun for my Etsy shops.  I wish I had a little elf to list items for me when I’m away from my home office.  Wouldn’t that be nice?
I like to promote other Etsy shops whenever possible.  Etsy is huge and ever seller deserves a little extra exposure.  Treasuries are fun to create as well.  Here’s a treasury titled, 16 Gifts Under $25.  I love this one, Gifts under $25.  Yesterday on Etsy’s blog they published 25 Gifts Under $25.  I want one of everything!
So, this weeks Top 10 List is all about gifts for the ladies.  Christmas shopping isn’t cheap.  Therefore, all of these items are $25. and under.  Gotta love Etsy.com.  So many creative people.  Enjoy.

The closer we get to Christmas my Top 10 Lists will focus on last minute DIY’s you can make yourself.  Inexpensive and easy to make.

Looking for something Vintage to put under the tree?  Last weeks lists featured a nice mix of pieces from the past.  Click here.

Did you miss my experience with the flying cat?  Cracks me up every time I look at it.

Friday’s Top 10 List: 11-9-12 (Vintage Gift Giving)

November 10, 2012

We got our holiday order of Vintage Canfolks for the shop in Galena, IL.  As soon as I saw Ralphie I immediately wanted to watch the movie.  Then reality sat in.  I no longer have cable.  My next trip to the store will included purchasing the DVD.  Maybe Santa will bring it for me.
Remember last week I mentioned that I’ll be utilizing the Top 10 List for holiday gift guides?  Read the entire post here.  This week I’m going to feature Etsy sellers who have shops full of vintage goodies.  Do you have anyone on your list who loves vintage?  Look at it as a great way to save the earth by recycling treasures from another time.
Shopping on a budget this year?  No worries.  Everything on this list is $25. and under!
Have a great weekend!
