My “Sick” Craft Mess

July 24, 2012

Let me share a little story with you.  As I was driving home from work this past Friday I was making mental notes of all the tasks I wanted to tackle on Saturday, because I was off.  I even thought it would be a good idea to go to bed early Friday night to rest up.  Well, little did I know that I would be in bed for the next two days.  Food poisoning?  Touch of the flu?  Who knows, but it literally sucked!
I took many trips to the kitchen for toast, applesauce, and 7UP.  Every time I passed my office, this is the table (look up) I looked at.  Looks terrible, doesn’t it?  I’m not ashamed of my mess.  Truthfully, it’s a table full of craft projects that are patiently waiting to get completed.  Oh, this is just one table in the room.  There’s a few random piles around the room.
Conclusion:  I need a bigger studio!
Wrong Answer!
What I need is a system to organize the chaos.
I went back to work today and the only thing I could think about was how much time was wasted by being ill.  Yes, this is how I think because I don’t like to be down because it forces me to sit still.  I missed two days, but it feels like it put me six months behind.  Can you relate?
Solution:  It’s quite simple.  I took out my daily planner than I use for online activity to see what needs to be done first.  I have some handmade party favors for my nephews birthday party in August that need to be completed, okay started.  Here sits a late Christmas gift that needs to be sewn, HELLO!
Let’s talk about all those recycle bags that I pack away in the trunk of my car and sometimes forget to use?  I’m gathering the supplies that belong to one project and placing them in their own bag.  Smash book supplies will get a bag, and so on.  Do you get where I’m going with this?  I need table space to create so let’s see if this works.
{pray}
I’m not sure about you but I work better with a schedule.
Maybe there was one good thing about getting sick.  Sometimes we don’t see things that are right in front of us until we are forced to look longer.
Your turn.  Feel free to share how you handle similar situations of chaos.  Use the comment section below.
P.S.  If I survive a full day of work tomorrow I’ll get the smash book supplies photographed to share with you.
Until the next word…
