Vintage Christmas Ornaments From My Childhood

December 16, 2012

My first Christmas ornament.

Did I actually just say that?  Vintage Christmas ornaments?  Yep, sure did.  Given the fact that I turned forty this year that would make them vintage.  Oh well…

When I moved out of my parent’s house they gave me a shoe box filled with ornaments that I made and some that were given to me.  I pull them out every year with the goal of placing them on my tree.  They always end up back in the box for safe keeping. I was also given a box full of my Girl Scout pins and badges that I’ve earned over the years.  We’ll visit those on another day.
Focus, back to the ornaments…

This past week, my blogger friend Laura (from The Shed, Petscribbles Blog) shared her tradition that she participates in every year with her husband.  Hanging their childhood ornaments on the Christmas tree.  You can read the entire post here.  After reading I got excited about hanging them again.

1972, the year the world changed.

I couldn’t help but to chuckle a bit when I came across these Smurf ornaments.  One of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons to watch.
Yes, a handmade Care Bear ornament.  Glitter and all!
And by the time this post is published the ornaments will be packed away safely in their shoe box.  I’m afraid of one falling off the tree and rolling on the floor.  My boys would be most delighted with the ball-like objects.
I’ll revisit them again next year.
Until the next word…

I loved this post, especially seeing all of the "vintage" ornaments! (Please, do we really need to draw attention to the term "vintage" with how old we are? LOL) I shared this on my blog too, as I adored seeing your ornaments! Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

I figure the more I say Vintage the more I get use to it…
      Thanks for sharing.
Happy Holidays to you and the fur kids.
