Dig a hole, pour the seeds in, cover up the hole, and add some water. That’s it right?
A well maintained garden is a healthy garden.
We tilled and fed the soil before planting. After the starter plants/seeds were placed in the soil we fed it again. Miracle Grow (for plants) works great for us. Now comes the maintenance. Much of which I was tending to today.
All of the photographs in this post were taken today. We planted the garden on May 13th, so we’re almost at the thirty day mark.
As your garden begins to grow you want to inspect the plants for pests. Remove what you can and/or use a strong stream of water to help you with the smaller bugs.
We use fabric landscaping in the garden to prevent weeds and grass from growing. Here and there a weed may pop up, so remove them. You want the nutrients and moisture in the soil to feed your vegetables not the weeds.
Do you know what your going to do with all the food your garden is producing? If your planning to can make sure you have all of your supplies ready to go. Freezing? Pick up your bags and make room in the freezer. It’s best to harvest your vegetables as they ripen.
If my boyfriend was home he would tell me to add that you should also talk to your plants. There, I added it.
Most of all have fun with it!
Enjoy the photos. I’m looking forward to my first pick!
